The eyes are the windows to the soul wrote Shakespeare. and our eyes are certainly the part of our face people look at when talking to us. That’s why if you are not happy with the shape of your eyes or eyelids, it can be a real blow to your confidence or lower your self esteem. You may have stunning eyes that are obscured by droopy lids that leave you looking tired or grumpy. But a simple surgical procedure can help open up the windows to your soul and make you feel revitalized.

The surgery

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a common procedure in Thailand and involves the removal of excess skin, muscle and fat from the upper and lower eyelids to leave they eyes looking fresh and imparting a youthful look to the whole face. This surgery can also help get rid of swelling (puffiness) around the eyes first thing in the morning and many patients find that it improves their general vision.

The process is quite simple but the time it takes depends on whether the surgeon is lifting upper or lower eyelids or both. surgery can be done using local or general anaesthesia. Cuts are made along the natural lines in the eyelids, (down the creases of your upper eyelids or below the lower eyelids in the lower) so if there is any scarring, it won’t be visible, being hidden in the natural folds of the eyes.

Any excess fat, muscle and loose skin is removed and the cut is finely stitched. Sometimes a laser might be used to tighten loose skin and reduce your wrinkles.

After surgery

There will be some discomfort once the anesthesia wears off and the patient will be advised to lie down and apply ice to the eyes periodically for 24-hours. This decreases the chance of hemorrhage and swelling.  Any scars will soon fade to a thin white line like which will be barely visible.

One advantage of undergoing this surgery in Thailand is that it is an outpatient procedure, so once you’ve rested for 24-hours you can head off and see the country, through new eyes.

The effects of eyelid surgery should last seven years though in some cases looks should last seven years or  even longer but you may have to get our lower lids redone to maintain the youthful visage.

A new way of looking at the world!
