Facial implants

We have always had the ability to change the shape of our bodies. A session in the gym can add tone definition to your muscles and limbs. With a controlled diet we can keep our weight down and improve our general health. But until now, we have never been able to do anything to sculpture our face. Until now of course. Facial contouring or chin and cheek augmentation is now becoming a common procedure. You can alter and change the balance of your face with implants, enhance weak or receding chins add prominence to cheek bones and reshape the jaw.

This type of surgery can  alter your face dramatically which is why, when you are thinking of facial implants or contouring, you really need to sit down with your doctor to lay out exactly what you want to achieve. The doctors here in Thailand are experienced at this surgery and can help you make informed decisions as to what looks good and what would work for your face.

The surgery

This type of surgery always requires that a consent form and you have to make your doctor aware of  any prior medical conditions and medication you might be on. You also need to inform them of any history of illness. The surgery can take anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours to complete.  The surgeon can either decide to use local or general anesthesia. After the implants have been fitted there may be some temporary side-effects including  bruising, swelling and stiffness.

Whatever type of procedure you are having, there is a similar pattern to the surgery. A small incision will be made near to where the implant will be placed, then a pocket is made for the implant in the facial tissue. The implant is carefully placed and the incision is stitched then bandaged or taped. Stitches are usually taken out in 5-10 days whereas internal sutures simply dissolve.  There can be the occasional problems with implants that will have to be corrected at a later date.

  • The shifting or inaccurate positioning of the implants or an infection surrounding it, which requires another operation or the implant has to be removed.

  • Tightening and the hardening of the scar tissue that surrounds the implant, which will result in an unnatural shape.

Most people who have undergone this procedure can usually expect to be back at work within a week but the final results might take a couple of weeks to be seen as the implant settles. Any strenuous activity and contact to the implant area must be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.
